Polish Presidency of the European Union
On 1 July 2011 Poland will for the first time take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Preparations for this role began as early as 2007. A year later the Government Plenipotentiary for the Preparation of Poland's Presidency of the Council of the EU was appointed, the programme of preparations for taking over of the Presidency of the Council of the EU by Poland was accepted, and logistical preparations and trainings for Polish officials started.
By taking over the Presidency Poland commits to coordinate all meetings, both formal and informal, taking place in the period between 1 July and 31 December. This also involves the representation of the Council to other institutions of the European Union, such as the European Commission and the European Parliament.
